Emmy Award-winning meteorologist Steve Raleigh is WCPO-TV's Chief Meteorologist.

Withnearly 25 years of experience, Steve has led the nation in thebroadcast meteorology field with his work. Steve has covered thebiggest stories for Channel 9 from Tornado outbreaks to HurricaneKatrina. He also has been a leader in weather safety with his weatherradio campaigns and severe storm coverage. Plus, his weather specialshave become a staple from year to year. Steve's "comfortable" airmattress is frequently used during severe weather seasons as he oftensleeps at the station.

Before WCPO, Steve spent 16 years at KRON-TVin San Francisco as their Chief Meteorologist. He pioneered thecountry's first instant weather information access, the CaliforniaWeather Network. He led the television market with a number of groundbreaking firsts from coverage to weather graphics. While at KRON,Raleigh was selected to represent the United States at the WorldWeather Conference in Barcelona, Spain. He also broadcast live from theWhite House lawn during a Presidential Conference on Global Warming.

Someof his recent career highlights include Snow Storm Coverage, HurricanceKatrina & Rita live reports, covering the tornado outbreak inOklahoma City. Steve was also the first person to forecast weather fromthe top of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Before San Francisco, Steveworked at WCNC-TV in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he was Chiefmeteorologist for two-and-a-half years. During his tenure there, Stevewas the lead forecaster during Hurricane Hugo. His forecasting duringthat disaster led to national honors from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and he was credited with saving lives with his outstanding coverage.

Priorto WCNC, Steve worked at WLWT-TV in Cincinnati as weekend weatheranchor and general assignment reporter. Following his coverage of adevastating tornado outbreak, Steve took on the additional task ofoperating the market’s first and only Northern Kentucky News Bureau. Arespected journalist, Steve was tapped to establish and anchor anightly bureau report while he managed a small staff.

Beforemoving to Cincinnati, Steve lived in Memphis, Tennessee, where heworked at WREG-TV. His first television job was at WLBT-TV in Jackson,Mississippi. There, he worked with a tornado-chasing crew whilemaintaining duties as a meteorologist and a reporter. He was named BestSmall Market Weatherman by the Associated Press in 1983. Steve'sbroadcasting experience also includes work in radio as a news reporter,announcer and host of public affairs shows.

Steve is therecipient of a 2000 Northern California Emmy Award for Best NewsTalent. He has also received the seal of approval from both theNational Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society,whichselected him to be an educational mentor for Bay Area science teachers.Steve credits his father, a long-time radio personality,for giving hima better understanding of broadcasting.

Steve has a Bachelorof Science degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University. Then,he was off to The University of North Carolina-Charlotte in a Mastersof Meteorology program for his post-graduate work.

Steve staysbusy donating his time as a master of ceremonies for a number ofcharities. He often works alongside his wife, Julie. Steve has fourchildren and enjoys sports, especially basketball.
