Release from the Bengals: The Bengals today signed free agent FB Jeremi Johnson, who played in every Cincinnati game for five seasons (2003-07) before sitting out the 2008 regular season.
Johnson suffered a knee injury in practice on Sept. 1 of last year. He was placed Sept. 3 on the Reserve/Injured list. He was waived from the Reserve/Injured list upon completion of his rehab on Nov. 26, rendering him a free agent.
Johnson (5-11, 270; Western Kentucky) is a seventh-year NFL player in 2009. He was a fourth-round Bengals choice in the 2003 draft, and held the team’s No. 1 FB position for the next five seasons. He supported the top two individual rushing seasons in Bengals history (Rudi Johnson’s 1458 yards in 2005 and 1454 yards in ’04), and over 2004-06, he helped Rudi Johnson post the most rushing yards by a Bengal (4221) in any three-year span.
Jeremi Johnson has career receiving totals of 55-for-269 (4.9 avg.) with six touchdowns, and career rushing totals of 48-for-141 (2.9 avg.) with two touchdowns.
