CityBeatIn order to celebrate the success of their exhibit, Chasing the Whale in Northern Kentucky, Gallerie Zaum is hosting a two-day marathon reading of Herman Melville’s classic, Moby-Dick, which will also be celebrating its 156th birthday on Saturday.
According to their press release, to their knowledge, “this will be the first Moby-Dick Marathon anywhere in which the entire book is read in the presence of an art exhibition solely devoted to interpreting the novel.”
As it usually takes 24 hours to get from “Call me Ishmael” to the end of the novel, Gallerie Zaum will be dividing the readings over the weekend with sessions from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Each reader will be given a 20-minute slot where they can read from their own copies of the American classic, or from the gallery’s “official” edition, the Longman Critical Edition illustrated by George Klauba and Kathleen Piercefield from Chasing the Whale.
Along with literature and art, there will be food and drinks including Mrs. Hussey’s clam chowder and Aunt Charity’s ginger cider. And anyone present for the entire marathon will receive a copy of the Longman Critical Edition.
