FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Two big-name Democrats are opting out of next year's U.S. Senate race.

U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler and state Auditor Crit Luallen are instead endorsing Jack Conway for the Democoratic nomination.

Conway announced last week that will run for the seat now held by two-term Republican Jim Bunning. Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson and U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth also endorsed Conway at a campaign event in Louisville on Monday.

Conway is the second major Democrat to enter the race. Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo announced in February and has already raised more than $420,000 for his campaign. Gov. Steve Beshear previously endorsed Mongiardo.
