FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A spokesman for Gov. Steve Beshear says an arrangement has been worked out that is expected to allow Kentuckians who exhaust their state and federal unemployment benefits this week to continue receiving checks.

Jay Blanton says the governor's office has received verbal approval from the U.S. Department of Labor for a regulatory change that would allow Kentucky to extend jobless benefits by 13 weeks using money from the federal stimulus package. The benefits were put in jeopardy for some people because of a legal snafu.

Blanton said he expects the state to implement an emergency regulation on Friday that will allow the jobless benefits to continue.
