BEREA, Ky. – Author pays a visit to Artisan Center to sign copies of his book.

On Saturday, Nov. 28, Jim Shields will sign copies of his book "Knothole Reflections" from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.

Jim Shields grew up on a small dairy farm in Warren County, Tenn. He has been writing since he was a teenager and he continued to write creatively for college courses and for the local newspaper while he attended Berea College. He received his degree from the University of Kentucky and has pursued a career in the pharmaceutical industry, living in Kentucky almost continuously since 1970.

Writing has been a hobby for Jim who has found that in his business travels he could write and compose almost anywhere. He states, "My writing voice is really how I think – and it has evolved into a sort of style that I currently am using."

Jim has finished a 2nd book and is working on some children’s stories as well.

This collection, "Knothole Reflections" by Jim Shields endeavors to identify, highlight and capture a collection of snapshots strung together with time. These short verses provide insights into diverse issues, emotions and experiences encountered in the process of living. Some are light and playful while others are more serious and thought provoking. But each is intended to offer a glimpse into some of those countless life events that pass before us like a seemingly endless parade: the parade that we view, just beyond that knothole in the fence.

Jim’s other interests include book collections, reading history and nature photography. While a few reflections included in his book have resulted from fresh air and solitude, he states that, "most of his writing just happens… sometimes even in the middle of the night."

The book "Knothole Reflections" by author Jim Shields is regularly available at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, located at 975 Walnut Meadow Road.
