FRANKFORT, Ky. — Visitors going to the Capitol on Derby Day morning will have an opportunity to purchase some of Kentucky’s finest traditional and contemporary craft and art at the Governor’s Derby Celebration.

Artists who have been accepted into the Kentucky Arts Council's Kentucky Crafted® program will line the back Capitol lawn in tents offering jewelry, pottery, photography, paintings, basketry, handmade brooms, stained glass, gourd art, woodwork, sculptural pieces and much more.

The traditional Governor’s Derby Celebration will be on the state Capitol grounds from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, and is open to the public. Each year thousands of people participate in this Derby festivity and browse the grounds to experience hot air balloon rides (weather permitting), entertainment, artist booths and other activities. Breakfast will be served at a nominal cost. Continuous shuttle service will be available beginning at 7:45 a.m. from the parking area located at Juniper Hill Park to the Floral Clock at the Capitol. Shuttles will also be available from the Floral Clock to downtown Frankfort. For more information, click here.

The Kentucky Arts Council is a state agency in the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet that creates opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
