BURLINGTON, Ky. –  As part of this year’s Northern Kentucky One Book One Community program, the four Northern Kentucky Library systems are bringing author Craig Holden in from New Mexico to discuss his novel about Cincinnati bootlegger George Remus.

“The Jazz Bird” is the Northern Kentucky One Book One Community featured selection this fall.  Boone, Campbell, Grant and Kenton County Public Libraries have been encouraging everyone to read “The Jazz Bird” and join with others in the community to discuss it.

“The Jazz Bird” is an intriguing novel about the lengths to which people will go for love, sex, money and power. The author has taken this real-life saga of Prohibition, bribes, murder and betrayal and given it a fictional twist. Set in 1920’s Cincinnati, with many familiar landmarks and streets, the author describes the lifestyles and corruption of the infamous bootlegger George Remus and his wife Imogene.

Holden is the author of six novels. His first novel, “The River Sorrow” (1993), was translated into a dozen languages.  His third novel, “Four Corners of Night,” received the Great Lakes Book Award for fiction in 1999 and made the USA Today bestseller list.

He has been a featured guest at the Festival International du Roman Noir in Frontignan, France, and he has taught at the Universities of Michigan and Toledo. Craig Holden is currently the visiting writer at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces where he lives with his wife, four kids, and two dogs.

Northern Kentucky One Book One Community is a reading program built around the shared experience of people reading and talking about the same book. Through public and private discussions, the program promotes a sense of community by facilitating the enjoyment of a great story.

This annual event culminates with a chance for the public to meet Holden and hear him discuss his writing style and the the motivation behind his book.
