Web produced by: Kerry DukeFRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson is predicting a record number of Kentuckians will vote in next Tuesday's presidential election.
Grayson says he expects between 65 and 70 percent of Kentucky's registered voters are likely to head to the polls. There are almost 3 million Kentuckians registered to vote, including more than 1.6 million Democrats and more than 1 million Republicans.
The 2004 presidential race saw Kentucky's highest voting turnout to date, with nearly 65 percent. But if his projection holds true, the presidential contest between Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama would top that.
There were nearly 2.8 million people registered in 2004, when 1.8 million people voted in Kentucky.
