FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Businesses that forbid mothers from breast-feeding could face fines of up to $1,000 under a measure that cleared the House earlier this week.
Democratic state Rep. Kelly Flood of Lexington is sponsoring the legislation aimed at protecting women's rights to breast-feed in stores, restaurants and other public places. It passed the House 94-0.
It now goes to the Senate for consideration.
The legislation sets fines of $500 for a first offense against anyone who violates an existing Kentucky law that allows mothers to breast-feed in any public or private location. The $1,000 fine would be for a second offense.
The legislation is House Bill 214.
