Reported by: Kellie GeistWeb produced by: Kellie GeistBeechwood High School ranked in the top five percent of schools in the country, the third best school in Kentucky and the No 1 school in Northern Kentucky in a new ranking published by Newsweek Magazine.
Newsweek's ranking is based on an index that compares the number of Advanced Placement tests taken at a high school divided by the number of students in the graduating class. The ranking also considers the quality of the AP scores students earn.
The high marks Beechwood earned are from 2007 data because the 2008 numbers are not available yet.
Beechwood was also listed among the top 500 schools in the nation in a separate ranking by U.S. News and World Report.
"Obviously we're happy to hear that we've ranked among the best high schools. We know that our faculty teaches to high standards and that our students work hard to live up to those standards," Beechwood Superintendent Glen Miller said.
The school's principal, Ginger Webb, and Miller also congratulated the students and faculty for their hard work.
