Anna Alger, a high school sophomore from La Grange, Kentucky, is the 2009 winner of the Congressional Art Competition for Kentucky’s Fourth District.

Alger won first place with her oil painting, “Unbridled Horizon.” Her art will be on display in the U.S. Capitol Building. Along with that, Alger won a scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Rep. Geoff Davis announced the winners of this year's competition earlier this week.

“I believe Anna’s painting is a colorful representation of Kentucky’s spirit, and we will display it with great pride in the U.S. Capitol,” Davis said in a release issued by his office.

Every year, students from the Fourth Congressional District are invited to show their artwork in the Congressional Art Competition. This year, 37 pieces were on display at the Newport branch of the Campbell County Public Library.

“I wish to thank all of the artists who entered our annual Congressional Art Competition. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase the works of Kentucky’s talented young people,” Davis said.

Other winners of the 2009 competition were:

Second Place- Hannah McEldowney (Mason County High School) for her digital photograph “Untitled.”

Honorable Mention- Ashley DeAtley (Mason County High School) for her collage “The World.”

Honorable Mention- Kyley Jones (Connor High School) for her digital illustration “Moss Covered Trees of Northern Kentucky.”
