HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Two of America’s most well-known political leaders will hold a lively discussion on the economy, national security and other pressing issues as Mike Huckabee and Harold Ford Jr., highlight Northern Kentucky University’s tenth annual Alumni Lecture Series event on Nov. 18, at 8 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.
The lecture is themed “Governing in America: The Realities of Change” and will provide those in attendance with valuable insights from Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor who challenged Republican presidential nominee John McCain for the GOP nomination in 2008. Joining him will be Ford, who served in Congress for five years and is now the chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council. Ford also serves as a news analyst for NBC and MSNBC.
“Each year, this dynamic event brings together intelligent and entertaining leaders on both sides of the political spectrum to engage in a spirited and informative discussion on the issues of the day,” said NKU President James Votruba.
Mike Huckabee—Huckabee ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008 and is the former governor of Arkansas. He is now the host of the No. 1 rated weekend hit Huckabee on the Fox News Channel, and is heard three times daily across the nation on the Huckabee Report on the ABC Radio Network, the fastest-growing new program on ABC Radio Network in years. Since his Republican nomination loss to Sen. John McCain in 2008, Huckabee has formed the HuckPac to assist Republicans running for office nationwide and has amassed a volunteer army of thousands of activists in all 50 states.
Harold Ford Jr.—Ford is the chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council, a news analyst for MSNBC and NBC, and a visiting professor of public policy at Vanderbilt University. He is described by President Bill Clinton as, “the walking, living embodiment of where America ought to go in the 21st century.” Ford served Tennessee in the United States Congress for 10 years and believes that government is most effective when it’s working for the betterment of everyone. He also serves on the Pentagon’s Transformation Advisory Group (TAG), is an overseer on the board at the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and is a member of the Council of Foreign Relations.
Huckabee and Ford have lectured together in recent months, exploring issues facing every American. Together, they make clear that we must connect to persevere through these difficult times.
“We are ecstatic to bring out two very experienced and high-profile political leaders to NKU’s campus,” said John Lucas, chairman of the NKU Alumni Lecture Series Committee. “We believe these individuals will entice much discussion and address some interesting issues during the lecture.”
