Support continues to grow for Northern Kentucky’s efforts with the $170 million Riverfront Commons project to enhance the Ohio and Licking riverfronts with bike and pedestrian paths and erosion stabilization, including connections to the business districts along the path, as well as to Devou Park in Covington.

The Northern Kentucky Port Authority authorized the expenditure of $25,000 for the Riverfront Commons project to assist with the consulting and advocacy efforts lead by Southbank Partners, a non-profit community development organization serving the river cities in Northern Kentucky.

"In just two months, Southbank has raised over $200,000 of the $335,000 needed to engage consultants, including a Washington D.C.-based consulting firm that will lobby for federal funds to for this audacious project," commented Roger Peterman, Chairman, Northern Kentucky Port Authority.

"The Riverfront Commons Project has been merged with Vision 2015’s Licking River Greenway Project to further enhance both projects’ potential for success. This support from the Northern Kentucky Port Authority shows further and deeper community involvement to reach our goals with these projects. We want Northern Kentucky to be more and more attractive in our quest to attract talent in the workforce, and this is one more way to do it."

The cities of Bellevue, Covington, Dayton, Fort Thomas and Ludlow have committed funding to the effort and Campbell County is expected to approve a request at its meeting tonight, with the City of Newport and Kenton County’s decisions to support the Riverfront Commons project pending. Several Northern Kentucky developers and riverfront businesses have also committed funding.
