Newport Family's Christmas Lights Inspired By Mom

Kyle Polley credits his mother and her love for Christmas as his inspiration for his winning display of more than 17,000 lights.

"She was the one that kept our family together," Polley said.

“I think it’s great, especially for our son. It’s kind of scary watching him climb up on the roof though, especially when it snowed,” said fiancee, Cindy Weaver. “I’m almost afraid.”

While the lights are a new addition to their son’s Christmas, holiday spirit for Bryce is far more than just once a year.

“I have one CD that [my mom] bought: Kenny Rogers. No matter how many times it plays I can listen to it,” Polley said as Weaver laughed and added, “For two years that’s the only thing Bryce got to listen to. It was Christmas all year long.”

“That to me was a part of her that I could keep all year long. That was her CD. It was her favorite. I thought in my mind, if I could play it she would be there. So I knew she was watching him,” Polley said.

The Kenny Rogers Christmas CD is only one of the things Polley and Weaver said they are excited to keep as one of their family traditions.

“We put our tree up and put up our special ornaments. Grammy bought Bryce a train that we put around the bottom of the tree. That’s something he’s always going to have,” Weaver said. “And our time together Christmas Day. Last year [Bryce] was pretty clueless. This year will be exciting when he starts opening all his gifts.

However, there is debate about which gift Bryce will be most excited about:

“It’ll be a toss-up between the block set and the hot wheels,” said Polley.

“Might like the drum set too,” said Weaver.

“I’m not looking forward to that,” he said.

Regardless, Polley said they agree on one thing.

“As long as he wakes up healthy every morning, that would be the best Christmas gift."
