Big Four Bridge Project Moving Along

Last Update: 11/02 2:58 pm

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Officials say the "Big Four Bridge," which is being turned into a span over the river for pedestrians and bikers, is taking shape on the Louisville waterfront.

An access ramp to the bridge from the Kentucky shore is nearly finished, while other projects are in line.

The Big Four Bridge is a former railroad bridge that would become a bicycle and pedestrian connection between the developed riverfronts in Louisville, Ky., and Jeffersonville, Ind. The bridge's conversion is in its third and final phase.

Officials are also hoping to hear back from the Federal Highway Administration by January regarding an application for $25 million through the national economic stimulus plan.

The Big Four's re-decking is expected to be complete by late 2011.
