MAYSVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A fire chief says he considers it "suspicious" that a blaze at a former northern Kentucky tobacco warehouse rekindled Sunday after crews doused flames two days earlier.
Maysville Fire Chief Eric Bach told The Ledger Independent that there was "too much fire" on the eastern half of the structure when firefighters arrived. He says an arson investigator with state police will be on the scene Monday.
The blaze on Friday consumed the western half of the building and firefighters said a firewall stopped the blaze from spreading to the other half.
Firefighters were called again Sunday afternoon and found heavy smoke billowing from the eastern half of the building. The newspaper reports that Sunday's blaze appears to have started in the basement.
The building was last used about three years ago as a tobacco receiving station.
