RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) — Madison County officials say they will give swine flu vaccinations to all county students whose parents return permission slips.
Christie Green, a spokeswoman for the Madison County Health Department, says as of late last week, some 3,000 of Madison County's 10,000 students had returned consent forms. She tells the Lexington Herald-Leader it may take several weeks to get all the students vaccinated.
While Madison and Oldham counties are opting to vaccinate children in schools, other counties say limited availability of the vaccine means they won't do that. For example, Fayette County is offering weekend clinics but not shots in schools.
Brad Hughes, spokesman for the Kentucky School Boards Association, said school districts are being encouraged to get students vaccinated, but how vaccine is delivered will vary widely.
