HARLAN, Ky. (AP) — A former eastern Kentucky sheriff's deputy charged in a plot to kill a candidate for sheriff in 2002 has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
The Harlan Daily Enterprise reports that 41-year-old Roger Hall was sentenced on Monday to five years in prison to run consecutively on two counts of criminal facilitation to murder and four counts of second-degree trafficking a controlled substance.
Hall entered an Alford plea to the charges in September, which means he did not admit guilt but acknowledged there was enough evidence for a conviction.
Hall was charged in the 2002 slaying of Paul L. Browning Jr., a former Harlan County sheriff who was campaigning for the seat again when he was killed.
