LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — A former Fayette County teacher has withdrawn a guilty plea to two charges of sexual misconduct in a three-decades-old case involving a student.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that Roberta Blackwell Walter withdrew her plea Friday after Fayette Circuit Judge James Ishmael Jr. insisted that she serve jail time even though the prosecutor recommended probation.
Blackwell had previously admitted to raping and molesting the 15-year-old student more than 30 years ago, but the original charges were reduced in exchange for her testimony against another teacher who was convicted of rape and sodomy.
The newspaper reports that Blackwell was allowed to withdraw her guilty plea because the judge added jail time to her sentence.
