Grand Rivers Offers Civil War Encampment

Last Update: 11/06 11:54 am

GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (AP) — An encampment in western Kentucky this weekend will offer visitors a glimpse of life during the Civil War.

The Paducah Sun reports that no Civil War battles were fought in Grand Rivers, where the encampment will be held, but many in the area had ties to soldiers on both sides.

The Grand Rivers' encampment will focus on life outside the major battles, including campfire cooking demonstrations, military drills, and a period wedding.

Director of the Grand Rivers Tourism Commission Kim Kraemer said that around 50 re-enactors are expected. Most activities will take place in Little Lake Park, with Saturday afternoon's wedding taking place at the Patti's 1880s Settlement chapel.
