Hearing Set For Men Accused In Officer Shooting

Last Update: 7/01/2009 10:53 am
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - An escaped Mississippi inmate and a Kentucky man accused in the shooting of a Nashville police officer are scheduled to be in court on attempted murder charges.

Thirty-year-old Joseph Leon Jackson Jr. and 25-year-old Courtney Logan, of Louisville, have a hearing scheduled Wednesday.

The Tennessean also reported Wednesday that the condition of Sgt. Mark Chesnut has been upgraded from critical to critical but stable. He was shot last week while sitting in his patrol car on Interstate 40 running a license plate on a rental car.

Jackson was serving a life sentence in a Mississippi prison for two aggravated robberies and aggravated assault, but escaped on Thursday during a medical visit.

Both are being held on bonds totaling more than $3 million.
