OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) — Owensboro officials say people who want a good view of the implosion of a seven-story hotel should be able to choose from several perches.
City operations manager Tony Cecil tells the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer that Gipe Automotive will offer the best view of the implosion of the Executive Inn Rivermont on Sunday morning. Officials say a site across from the hotel's tennis facility and the top two floors of a nearby parking garage also offer good views.
Opened in 1977, the Executive Inn Rivermont with its Las Vegas-style Showroom Lounge had been a venue for nationally known music acts such as Loretta Lynn and the Oak Ridge Boys. The 550-room hotel struggled with financial difficulties and closed last year. It was known informally as the "Big E."
