Park Plans Expanded Sites For Horse Camping

Last Update: 11/02 3:33 pm

DAWSON SPRINGS, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky state park is planning a campground expansion that will accommodate campers who bring their horses with them.

The expansion at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park in western Kentucky will have up to 15 horse camping sites with water and electric hookups and amenities for horses.

The state park's naturalist, Rebecca Clark, tells The Messenger in Madisonville that horse camping is popular and a campground for horses at Land Between the Lakes farther to the west is often full.

The horse camping expansion is part of $1.1 million in improvements planned for Pennyrile Forest State Park. The money will also be used to build a new bathhouse, to renovate some of the campgrounds' existing sites and to construct a trail leading riders to the head of the 30-mile trail system that winds through Pennyrile State Forest.
