WHEELWRIGHT, Ky. (AP) - A women's prison in eastern Kentucky where inmates have reported being sexually assaulted by male staff is attempting to recruit more female guards.
Kentucky prison officials are investigating the alleged sexual assaults at Otter Creek Correctional Complex in Floyd County that date to 2006. The prison is run by Nashville, Tenn.-based Corrections Corp. of America, or CCA.
The company is offering $2,000 signing bonuses to new female employees and $1,000 bonuses to employees who refer a female applicant.
Kentucky recently rejected a CCA request to increase the rate it charges the state per inmate, citing the sex abuse allegations, among other factors. The company had requested an increase of about $2 per day for each inmate.
