LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Supporters of single-payer health care planned to spend the night sleeping on the marbled floor of the Humana Building.
The Thursday night sit in at the health insurer's Louisville headquarters was organized by Kentuckians for Single Payer Healthcare. The group supports health care reform that would have the federal government become the single source of universal coverage.
Kay Tillow, coordinator of the group said that they organized the sit in to bring attention to the need for a single-payer plan.
Humana security personnel said the demonstrators, which totaled seven, could stay as long as they wanted, but could not reenter the building if they left while the doors were locked.
Protesters said the single biggest factor that could determine how long they stay would be the bathrooms, which were to be locked through the night.
