LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A group of Louisville elementary students have completed a class project to show their appreciation for veterans.
The (Louisville) Courier-Journal reports that students at Greenwood Elementary drew pictures expressing gratitude on linen squares that were assembled as a 48-square-foot quilt.
One of 70 fourth-graders who contributed to the quilt is 8-year-old Collin Sheffield. He drew a picture of his grandfather, a World War II Navy veteran.
Teacher Jeanette Pope had the idea for the students to thank veterans through art.
They will present the quilt during a program at the University of Louisville on Wednesday. The quilt will be donated to an office at the university that serves veterans.
