BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — Officials at Western Kentucky University have approved purchasing apartments to turn into a village for international students and visiting scholars.
The three two-story brick buildings will join six cottages already owned by the university. The property is located near a residence hall.
Renovations to some of the buildings will begin in December. Two buildings will be demolished in June 2010 so that construction can begin on a new building for the Office of International Programs.
Provost Barbara Burch said Friday that the number of visiting scholars that need university housing has increased from less than 10 to more than 50 per year and the number of international students has increased more than 250 percent.
