John MatareseIf you're a parent...I have some some bad news about the hottest toys this holiday season. Big retailers have ordered fewer of them this year, so that they dont get stuck with millions of unsold Elmos, as they did a year ago.
But that means the hottest toys are already hard to find.
Mom on a MissionHeather Kacachos thought she was getting an early start this year....when her daughter told her she wanted one of these for Christmas:
A
Zhu Zhu pet: a battery powered hamster that's quickly become the number one toy of the 2009 holiday season.
But when she stopped by her local WalMart, she got some bad news. Heather says "I noticed they were all sold out. So I went on Walmart.com, Target.com, and Amazon, and couldn't find them there either."
Remember
Webkins and
Furbys? These little robotic hamsters are the toy your kid wants that you can't find. What upset Heather, though, was that re-sellers are now charging a 300% markup on Amazon and eBay for the $9 pet.
And prices continue to go up. As of December 1st, Amazon resellers were asking between
$50 and $100."At WalMart they were $8 a piece...however at Amazon they were triple that price. I was like whats going on here?"
But with stores cutting their toy orders this year,
Parents magazine says supplies will be tight on all the hottest toys.
Other must have toys include:- Mindflex Mind Reading Helmet
- Nerf and Strike Darts
- Bakugan Battle Packs
- Barbie Fashionistas
- Moxie Girls
But none will be as hard to find as these darn hamsters.
So Heather checked with WalMart almost every day...and one morning she was able to pounce like a cat, and get herself a hamster. A thrilled Heather says "I would check about five stores ...every few days in the area...and lo and behold they got them in!"
