Camp Helps Children Understand Death

Last Update: 6/17/2009 1:16 pm
Dealing with the death of a loved one isn't easy, but St. Elizabeth is taking steps to make sure children better understand the process.

St. Elizabeth Hospice is offering a STARS camp, which will help children find strength through grief when loosing a loved one.

The camp is set to be held from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. July 1 at Town & Country Sports Complex at 1018 Town Dr., in Wilder.

The goal of the camp is to provide a one-day structured program that integrates fun and play with grief work activities. The children will have an opportunity to meet others who have experienced a death and learn safe and healthy ways to express their grief.

The STARS summer camp is limited to 40 participants and if for elementary and middle school aged children. The cost is $20 per child or $40 per family, which includes breakfast and lunch. There are scholarships available for children who have financial need.

Families may register by calling (859) 292-0244 or visit http://www.starsforchildren.com to receive a registration packet. The registration deadline is June 20.

STARS is an outreach program of the St. Elizabeth Hospice Program and Linneman Funeral Homes After Care Department. The goal of the STARS program is to help children and teens so that they, like stars, may shine in the darkness brought on my death.
