Youth whose lives have been touched by cancer can come together to share their experiences and a day filled with fun activities at “Touched By Cancer Youth Day Camp” on June 19 at President’s Park in Edgewood, Ky.

The free event will begin at 9 a.m. and last until 4:30 p.m. This is the 12th year the American Caner Society has sponsored the event. The camp is open to youths ages 6-12 who are battling cancer or who have been affected by the disease in some way.

"The sad truth is that too many of our young people have been affected by cancer in some way, either by having it themselves or by seeing a family member or friend go through it," said Jamie Webb, executive director of the Northern Kentucky American Cancer Society.  "This camp provides an opportunity for children to have a day of fun in an environment where they can feel comfortable talking about their cancer experiences."

The American Cancer Society's camp philosophy is to ensure that children who face cancer are given the chance to experience as many of the joys and freedoms of a healthy childhood as possible.

This year's camp "Beach Theme" will have the children participating in games including water volleyball and obstacle courses, creating arts and crafts and launching balloons. The camp is staffed by physicians, nurses, counselors and other professionally trained volunteers.

The registration deadline is June 1. There is no charge to attend, however, space is limited to the first 100 children. Each camp participant will receive a t-shirt, plus lunch and snacks throughout the day.
