On Sunday, April 26, Jim Votruba, the President of the Northern Kentucky University will be speaking at the first annual Service Symposium at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center.
This event, part of Children, Inc.’s Global Youth Service Day will recognize and celebrate the contributions of youth to our community as well as inform and connect attendees to numerous service opportunities around Greater Cincinnati
Dr. Votruba will be speaking about his own vision of service learning and a lifestyle of philanthropy and how it has shaped his position as president of NKU. Votruba will also talk to the youth in attendance about committing to an idea bigger than oneself.
“We are very excited to have such an influential public figure come and speak at our first annual Service Symposium” stated Jordan Huizenga, Children Inc.’s coordinator of Global Youth Service Day. “Dr. Votruba’s dedication and passion for service is exactly the ideal that we want to spread throughout our community.”
The Service Symposium will be Sunday, April 26, from 1-5 p.m. at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center and is open to the public and free of charge. Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is an annual global event that highlights and celebrates the contributions of youth ages 5-25 to their communities through volunteer service. During GYSD, youth around the world organize community service projects to address local needs. This year, Global Youth Service Day will be held on April 24-26.
Children, Inc. has been partnering with Youth Service America as a Lead Agency to coordinate a GYSd that creates excitement and impact in our region.
The Greater Cincinnati GYSD will consist of a service day on Saturday, April 25, where youth will have the opportunity to come together and serve in order to improve our community. On Sunday afternoon, April 26, we will have a Youth Service Symposium to showcase the Service Learning projects that have been completed over the last school year and also promote civic contribution.
