February is heart-healthy month, Feb. 14 is Valentine’s Day and Feb. 6, you can show your support for all the women you know by wearing red.
National Wear Red Day is dedicated to women and heart disease. According to the American Heart Association heart disease is the No. 1 of women.
The AHA urges everyone to wear red and to donate as a way to support vital research and education efforts.

Go Red
Celebrate with a checkup—
Let each birthday remind you that it’s time for your annual checkup. Talk with your doctor about how you can reduce your risk for heart disease.
Get off the couch—
Step, march or jog in place for at least 30 minutes most days of the week.
Quit smoking—
Can’t go cold turkey? Cut the number of cigarettes you smoke each day in half; then cut that number in half; cut it in half again; finally, cut down to zero.
Drop a few pounds—
You can lose one to two pounds per week by cutting 500-1,000 calories per day and increasing your physical activity.
Become a salt detective—
Check out the nutrition facts panel on packaged foods to see how much sodium they contain. For average Americans, limit your salt intake to 2,300 mg a day.
