The Heart Attack Prevention Institute® at ProScan Imaging recently announced the installation of Step & Shoot Cardiac CT scanning at its Cincinnati Midtown location.

With Step & Shoot technology the x-ray beam is on only when the heart is between beats, thus reducing the time required for scanning and lowering the patient’s radiation dose up to 80 percent. Using Philips Medical’s advanced software and technology, this system is able to provide clear images of the entire heart in as little as two heartbeats.

The use of Step & Shoot offers new options for the detection of coronary artery disease for anyone worried about radiation exposure to the patient.

“Now we can drastically reduce the patient’s effective radiation dose -- without compromising cardiac image quality,” said Chief Medical Officer Stephen J. Pomeranz, M.D. In fact, the effective radiation dosage with Step & Shoot CCTA is only 2 to 3 milliSieverts (mSv), less than the average U.S. background radiation dose of 3.6 mSv per year.

The mission of the Heart Attack Prevention Institute at Proscan Imaging is simple: The Heart Attack Prevention Institute at ProScan Imaging, in partnership with community physicians, will identify heart disease at its earliest stages so that appropriate preventive care can be administered and patients will not fall victim to a heart attack.
