The FFLAG (Fitness for Life Around Grant County) coalition wants local residents to start their Derby Day celebrations on May 2, with a brisk 5K run/walk through Williamstown, Ky.
The fifth annual "Derby Dash 5K" is being planned for Saturday, May 2.
The adult race starts at 8:30 a.m. at Williamstown Baptist Church, 214 N. Main St., Williamstown, Ky., and follows a 5K (3.1 mile) mostly flat scenic course through Williamstown in Grant County. A fun run for kids begins immediately following the race.
The cost for the race is $15 for adults including a T-shirt, or $10 for adults without a T-shirt. Registration for seniors age 65 and over is $10, including a T-shirt. To encourage families to participate together, a family deal is also available-$15 for the first person, and $5 for each additional family member, including T-shirts.
Participants are encouraged to register in advance. Mail-in registrations are due by April 24, and online registration is due by April 30. The fee for runners/walkers registering the day of the race is $20 and does not include a race T-shirt.
Prizes will be awarded to the top overall male and female runners; as well as to the top male and female walkers in each age group. Awards will also be given to the top male/female finisher in each age division.
Proceeds from the race support the efforts of the FFLAG coalition, which promotes physical activity and nutrition in Grant County.
