Take a look inside the Cheryl McCafferty trial; retrace the steps of the prosecution, defense, police and experts on the case.

The Fort Thomas Police Department arrived on the scene on June 25, 2007, after a 9-1-1 call from Cheryl stating that she had shot her husband, who lay in their master bed—and it was then and there that the investigation began.

Experts were called in, and labs conducted several tests on items that they received from the Fort Thomas home at 70 Madonna.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Michelle Snodgrass and defense team Deanna Dennison, Frank Mungo and Keith Gambrel tried the case arguing their points between murder and self-defense to the jury.

After a two-and-a-half-week trial, the jury found the 44-year-old mother of two, guilty of first-degree manslaughter, for the shooting death of her husband.

She was sentenced to 18 years in prison, and is eligible for parole after serving 20 percent of that time plus her time already served. She may be eligible for parole in 2011.

McCafferty was moved to the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women in Pewee Valley, Ky., last week.
