After a three day break, both sides in the murder trial of a Fort Thomas mother will be back in court for the start of closing arguments Monday morning.
Lawyers are expected to begin closing arguments when the Cheryl McCafferty murder trial resumes at 9:30 a.m. Court was not in session Friday, as both sides and the jury were given the day off.
The defense rested its case Thursday morning. The prosecution called two rebuttal witnesses in the afternoon, but only one testified. So, there is a chance that other rebuttal witness could be called to the stand on Monday.
McCafferty is accused of shooting her husband, Robert, to death back in June of 2007. She says it was done in self-defense, after more than a decade and a half of spousal abuse. Prosecutors, however, say she killed him for money.
If both sides finish their closing arguments Monday, the jury could get the case by the end of the day. If convicted, the 44-year-old mother of two could face life in prison.
