PIKEVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The Pikeville Medical Center has opened a regional flu-only clinic.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that the clinic opened Monday and will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. By the end of its first day, doctors had seen about 60 patients.
Officials at the eastern Kentucky hospital said they decided to open the clinic to ease a rising burden on emergency room doctors.
Jerry Johnson, the hospital's chief operating officer, said a building near the hospital was renovated to accomodate the clinic. He says a new registration area and six exam rooms were created and additional staff was hired to allow the clinic to operate around the clock.
