A total of 187 people were vaccinated against the H1N1 virus today in Madisonville, but it took enough time that everyone's patience was tested.
The line at the Braxton Cann Memorial Medical Center at Madison and Whetsel wrapped all the way around the building.
"I tired," commented toddler Mike Dektas, of Mt. Lookout.
Mike wasn't the only child tired of waiting in this Madisonville line for a shot.
"My neighbor brought over a stroller and some food so they had snacks. They've been playing 'I-Spy' because what else can you do with a two and a three-year-old," said Tracey Glassmeyer, of Mariemont.
Food was also a popular distraction.
"We have the tier of escalation we get to as far as different foods. We haven't gotten to the suckers yet, but we've gotten to the candy. It's still in there for when the shot comes," said Beth Hoskins, of Anderson Township.
Toys also seemed to help.
Four-year-old Ava Ellis perhaps had the best toy of all. Her nanny dropped off a DVD player after an urgent call from Ava's dad.
"What happened was we got in the line and saw the line, we hurried up and called up and said get the DVD player out here so that the kids can watch the DVD player and occupy them for a little while, anyways," said Rocky Ellis, of Mariemont.
For some, it just got to be too much.
The frustration was also felt by the parents.
"I've been to eastern Europe, and it's like waiting in eastern Europe for bread," said Craig Rozen.
Some took a seat while others just needed to run to burn off energy.
After hours of waiting, every child in this line got a swine flu shot. For parents, it was worth the wait and a lesson for the future.
"So, if you are waiting in line, I say bring snacks, bring drinks -- and little foldable chairs were very, very handy," said Sara Shoemaker, of Pleasant Ridge.
There were 24 pregnant women who also got a swine flu shot at the clinic.
The next clinic for high-risk patients is this Friday at the Millvale Health Center.
