WALTON, Ky. -- Thousands of Kentucky residents filed into lines outside of Walton-Verona School Saturday as the Northern Kentucky Health Department held its second swine flu clinic in the area.
Northern Kentucky Health Department Public Information Manager, Emily Gresham Wherle said, "There's obviously been a lot of concern about the illness for several months now, so a lot of people have been very interested in getting the vaccines. I think a lot of parents are concerned."
Health officials estimate that they vaccinated nearly 1,000 people an hour.
Gresham Wherle said, "We were expecting a lot of people, and we were expecting a lot of families, but everything seems to be going smoothly. Our process is in place. Our staff is well trained. We're getting people through the line as fast as we can."
For local mothers like Sue Simms of Independence, keeping her children safe is priority number one.
Simms said, "My daughter is slightly asthmatic, and we knew that was really important to take care of that and so, we figured, if she gets it, we might as well all go ahead, while we're here."
After hours in line, the wait caused some anxiety for Simms' children, but she knew the shot is well worth it.
Simms said, "They were fine the whole time we were in line, once we got in here, that changed a little bit, which it typical, but it wasn't bad."
Simms' daughter, Aliyah, has some advice for everybody getting the shots.
Aliyah said, "Sometimes it hurts, and sometimes it doesn't. You just have to be brave."
