Camels Will Compete

Last Update: 8/21/2009 11:49 am
CAMPBELL COUNTY CAMELS
2008 record: 5-5.
Coach: Troy Styer (5th season, 25-18).

In four years at Campbell County, none of Troy Styer’s teams have finished below .500. Before his arrival in 2005, the Camels had not finished above .500 in any season since 1994.

Campbell County missed the playoffs because of a district tiebreaker (the second time that has happened to the Camels in three years), but the Camels return five members of last year’s offense and six on defense.

Both of the Camels’ quarterbacks – senior Andrew Eshman and junior Michael Kremer – are back after combining for 1,691 passing yards in 2008.

Senior running back Austin Johnson also returns, having gained 779 ground yards last season.

But senior Ryan Steffen is the lone receiver back from last season, and he caught just two passes last season. Campbell County is also short on the offensive line, with just senior Zac Koeninger back.

Koeninger and juniors Joe Sauerbeck and Jake Rebholz (72 tackles) will comprise the linebacking corps, with junior Cory Hodge returning in the secondary and junior T.J. Jett back on the defensive line.

Campbell County’s reserve and freshmen teams combined to finish 19-1 last season, so at the very least the Camels should compete for a playoff spot, and at best could battle for the top seed in Class 6A.
