CovCath senior quarterback Brayden Erpenbeck finished with over 400 all-purpose yards in Friday's win over Dixie Heights (Cathy White/Kypost.com).
Sophomore Gabe Gray rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns as Covington Catholic hammered Scott, 56-14 on Saturday.

Senior quarterback Brayden Erpenbeck was 13-for-16 for 117 yards and a TD, and ran the ball 13 times for 98 yards and a score.

Gray scored on a 37-yard run on CovCath’s first possession, then Scott sophomore Ryan fumbled on the second play and senior Frank Kremer recovered the fumble for a touchdown.

CovCath would score three touchdowns on Scott fumbles. Senior Chris Garnick returned a fumble 17 yards for a TD in the third quarter, and sophomore Thomas Batts ran one in from three yards out later in that period.

The Colonels, who outgained the Eagles, 342-212, have now won four straight games after starting the season 0-3. This was CovCath’s district opener.

Scott, which has given up at least 26 points in every game this season, will need to beat Highlands to avoid being the No. 4 seed in Class 5A. Senior quarterback Zach Sowder had 25 carries for 140 yards and both Eagles touchdowns in the losing effort.
