Simon Kenton committed two special-teams turnovers and senior Miles Simpson was held to 69 rushing yards on 14 carries as Lexington Henry Clay beat the Pioneers, 42-31 on Friday.

It was the first loss of the season for Simon Kenton, which had won 10 of its last 11 games, thanks to its postseason run to the state finals game last season.

Simpson did score one touchdown on the ground, and ran a kickoff back 85 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.

But Henry Clay rushed for 281 yards and gained 408 yards total, while holding Simon Kenton to 96 ground yards and 159 in the air for 255 yards of offense.

Junior quarterback Jerry Williams threw for 127 yards and a touchdown and ran in two more for Henry Clay.

The Pioneers fumbled the opening kickoff, and Henry Clay scored on the next play, a 16-yard run. A Simon Kenton fumble on a punt resulted in a three-play touchdown.
Henry Clay also intercepted two passes.
