Newport Central Catholic scored 27 straight points after surrendering a touchdown on its second defensive play from scrimmage as NewCath beat Louisville Christian Academy, 27-7, Friday at Newport in the Class 2A playoffs.
The win was offensive coordinator Dave Schneider’s third in place of his father, Bob Schneider, the all-time leader in football wins in Kentucky who was hospitalized with blood clots a few weeks back.
Chris Kelly led the Thoroughbreds with 25 carries for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Brady Hightchew followed with 23 carries for 118 yards and a touchdown.
Hightchew also completed four-of-five passes for 44 yards.
LCA was held to 183 yards of offense, with 66 of those coming on a touchdown run by Wes Osborne on the Centurions second play from scrimmage after Hightchew was intercepted in the end zone on the opening possession of the game.
