OHIO COUNTY, Ind. -- An investigation is underway after the body of a 10-year-old boy was discovered near an Indiana park on Sunday.

Indiana State police received a call around 8:15 p.m. that a body had been found in a wooded area near the Rising Sun City Park off Shiner Boulevard.

The boy has been identified as Conner Conley of Rising Sun. He was a student at Ohio County Elementary Middle School.

Indiana police have a 17-year-old male in custody in connection with the 10-year-old's death.  He is facing a preliminary charge of Battery Causing Serious Bodily Injury, a Class C felony.  The suspect is being held at the Dearborn County Juvenile Center.

Police believe Conley was killed at a different location and his body dumped at the location near the woods.

Just after 8 p.m. on Sunday night, an Ohio County Sheriff Deputy Adam Ziegler received information about a body in a wooded area near a city park in Rising Sun off Shiner Boulevard.

"And he responded to the scene and found a child, a small child later identified as 10-year-old Conner Conley from here in Rising Sun," said Sgt. Noel Hauze of Indiana State Police.

Police say later that night they took a 17-year-old male into custody.

Investigators are not saying what the relationship is between the two.

The area where Conley's body was found is not far from the Ohio County Elementary and Middle school where he was in the 5th grade.

Counselors were on hand Monday.

"Everybody knows everybody in our community. There's only 70 to 75 kids in his grade in our school. So it hits home not only with the students but also with the staff. Even the parents in our community," said Stephen Patz, the Ohio County Schools Superintendent.

There are many questions surrounding the student's death.

Residents say they can't believe it happened in their backyard.

"Its so upsetting to think in a small town like this where you think you know everybody something like this has happened. But I don't know it if its an accident or what but I just feel so bad for the family," said Bethany Chapman of Rising Sun.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday in Indianapolis.

Police have not released any other information at this time.
