The Great American Smokeout was Thursday and it is designed to help smokers around the Tri-State kick the habit to live a healthier life.
One Northern Kentucky woman did all that and more.
Janel Huddleston smoked for ten years.
It began as a casual thing, but towards the end it was like a pack or a pack and a half a day.
On July 24 of 2009, Huddleston made a decision.
"I will be 35 soon and I think I've wasted so many years of my life being unhealthy," Huddleston says. "And to quit smoking was kind of the final step in doing that."
She kicked the habit, but first she kicked the pounds.
Since January, Janel changed her life through diet and exercise and lost 89 1/2 pounds.
"The first five weeks were really hard," Huddleston said. "When you go from drinking pop and going from pretty muchany fast food that you want to whether you're hungry or not if it just sounded good you went and tried it. I was pretty evil."
Huddleston says it's the best decision she's ever made.
