Clermont County Department of Job and Family Services tells 9News this scenario is coming true for many people in their service area. From December 2007 to December 2008, their applications for food assistance programs has gone through the roof.
The growth rate equals an increase of 144 percent in 2008 from 2007. Typically in a year, CCJFS sees a hike of 385 new cases and 886 individuals a year. That is from the four years before.
In 2008, the numbers equaled 940 new cases and 2462 individuals. The number in need is up 177 percent over the previous four year average. As of December of 2008, the total number of food stamp families were 6,194, or 14,882 individuals.
