INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The tree-killing emerald ash borer has been found in southern Indiana's Monroe County.
The Department of Natural Resources says the invasive green beetle has been confirmed in the county's Polk Township.
Since 2004, the ash borer has been found in 21 Indiana counties, only three of them in southern Indiana.
Large infestations of the insect have killed millions of ash trees in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana since 2002.
All of Indiana is under a federal quarantine that prohibits moving regulated ash material across state lines without a compliance agreement or permit from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
