FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The Kentucky State Senate has approved a bill that would help police retrieve stolen items sold at pawn shops.

Senate Bill 123 would require pawn shops to record a seller's driver's license number or ID number and details about the sale in an online database.

Kentucky State Police would crosscheck the database with reports in hopes of returning stolen items to rightful owners.

The measure now heads to the House of Representatives.
