FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Six Kentucky school districts will share nearly $200,000 from the Division of Air Quality to lessen emissions from school buses. The money is going to Bell, Boone, Fayette, Franklin and Jefferson counties and to the city of Paducah. The districts will use the money to retrofit buses with equipment to reduce air pollution. Kentucky has nearly 10,000 school buses traveling more than 100 million miles a year and burning 13 million gallons of diesel, fumes from which have been linked to increased rates of asthma and allergies. Other school districts can apply for similar grants at www.air.ky.gov. The deadline is May 29. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
